Libs celebrate! You have less money!

News services across the country today trumpeted the early work of House Democrats, who are sprinting to finish their immediate business ahead of their self-imposed first-100-hour deadline. They planned a major celebration for tonight (Thursday) after pushing through their last measure: a $15 billion energy bill that levies new taxes, royalties and fees on BIG OIL.

Of course, you're only getting a fraction of the story from the media.

So here we are at the midway point of January and we have a Congress that has passed, among other things, a higher minimum wage (which, as we've covered here, simply means your Whoppers and Big Gulps and groceries and a multitude of other purchases will be going up in price), a measure to bolster our fight against terrorism by requiring more and better cargo screening at our nation's ports (even though the equipment and manpower does not exist to do so), expansion of federally-funded stem cell research (which has zero chance of ever getting off Bush's desk) and, at some point today, a $15 billion energy bill that's also going to come out of YOUR POCKET.

These Dems and the people who put them in power are very anti BIG OIL. Those bastards at Exxon and Mobil, they say, are making TOO MUCH MONEY, and dammit, we're not going to stand for it anymore. So here's the first of what promises to be a litany of legislation aimed at siphoning money right out of their pockets.

And what's the next step, class? That's right. Just as in the case of a higher minimum wage or any other time the government decides to meddle in the free market, a company facing higher costs and/or higher taxes ... ??? That's right, they pass the cost on to you and me. (Unless you're of the belief that oil companies are going to say "Gee, we have been making an awful lot of money. Let's just start losing some!")

So in the final analysis, what do we have? The government grabs $15 billion from oil companies. Oil companies raise prices to recoup the loss. You and I pay.

Sounds an awful lot to me like the government's simply taking more money out of our pockets.

Party on, Libs. You are what you are.
